It is important to introduce your child to the dentist and familiarise them with the surroundings. We suggest bringing them to the dentist as soon as their very first tooth appears (usually when they are around six months old). Even though it may be hardly any teeth for us to examine at this stage, we can’t stress enough just how much early visits make a significant difference. For further protection, at around the age of six or seven, a fissure sealant can be applied to your child’s permanent teeth as they emerge. This is extremely beneficial as it can stop bacteria from entering and help prevent tooth decay. It is a clear plastic coating which covers the narrow grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. To help strengthen enamel and make your child’s teeth more resistant to decay, we can use a fluoride varnish, which is painted onto teeth.
