SURGICAL Faqs

We always go out of our way to make sure every patient feels as comfortable as possible when undergoing surgical extractions. If you feel nervous, let us know, and we’ll do everything we can to ensure you’re happy before proceeding.

Tooth extraction procedures today are far less painful than ever before, thanks to powerful anaesthetics and sedatives. In many cases, a patient who has a tooth extracted experiences little or no discomfort and only minor bleeding.

Before a tooth is extracted, the area surrounding the tooth is numbed with a topical and injectable anaesthetic.
Patients with extracted teeth sometimes need to take an antibiotic, and at the very least, take precautions following the procedure to ensure that infection doesn’t occur. Smoking, vigorous brushing and rinsing, and drinking liquids through straws are discouraged during the post-operative period because they hinder healing and may cause the wound to open. Cold compresses applied to the outside cheek near the extraction area can help reduce any swelling and promote faster healing.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may have an impacted wisdom tooth:

  • Pain
  • Facial Swelling
  • Gum Swelling
  • Infection

Many people suffer from wisdom tooth pain; this is due to teeth that form too close to existing permanent teeth; this can cause problems such as crowding or improper bites, it can also lead to infection.

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of the upper and lower normal adult mouth. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything to prevent wisdom teeth becoming painful, but luckily symptoms are easy to spot, they include, severe discomfort, inflammation, and some kind of infection.

Impacted wisdom teeth can be extremely painful, as well as harmful to your oral health, but here at Wallington Smiles, we can help sort any problems that may occur with your wisdom teeth.
